My name is Damien Pannett, I use the pronouns he/him and am based in St Kilda, Melbourne.
I'm creative and empathetic - bringing these qualities to all areas of my life. The pictures you see across my website come from all my various passions and projects - I try to find beauty in the mundane and joy in the smallest of moments.
I have a passion for helping people, drawing upon a well of lived experiences and training to facilitate meaningful changes in the lives of others.
I have a working history that spans multiple industries, the connecting thread has been my desire to help people.
My employment background has been focused on building people's individual capacity often during challenging circumstances; including roles supporting people through homelessness, family violence, addiction and personal change. These roles have included counselling, case management, crisis response roles and providing leadership to teams of skilled and empathic practitioners.
From working in refuges and detox facilities across London, to supporting people in temporary accommodation across Melbourne's Western suburbs - I have had the privilege of meeting and working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, watching many of them thrive despite the barriers that face them.
I believe that we all have a fundamental ability to adapt and change to our circumstances; that we hold the resources within to bring about the most elaborate of transformations. My work has allowed me to join others on their journey of change and to support people to uncover their own hidden resources.
I completed my Bachelor of Counselling with Australian College of Applied Psychology - after initially completing counselling studies at a diploma level and recognising the intrinsic value of counselling and psychotherapy.
In addition to my formal training, I have undertaken a range of specialised training around various topics including: LGBTQIA+ specific issues, responding to family violence, case management, grief and loss, COVID-19 mental health impacts and addiction recovery and risk management.
I am registered with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) at a provisional level; and carry relevant liability insurance for my work.
I am also listed on the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. ARCAP Counsellors and Psychotherapists have demonstrated that they meet the required training and ethical standards and that they undertake professional supervision and professional development activities annually. They have experience supporting clients from diverse communities and are located in all States and Territories of Australia.
